mcbrat Posted December 8, 2011 Share Posted December 8, 2011 1994 SS stock EJ22T. don't notice it if RPMs are up... but just off idle whether stopped or moving, the noise frequency increases with RPMs, but is not a consistent noise. seems to waver... 170k on stock engine and turbo (assuming it's original) clutch has been starting to slip occasionally. I'm hoping it's the turbo or the clutch, because both are going to be replaced shortly... TD04 (75k) sitting on the shelf waiting... any thoughts... idosubaru Posted December 8, 2011 Share Posted December 8, 2011 tap, screech, knock, squeal? if you're saying "bad" it doesn't sound good, boo!? sounds like you're not leaning towards these but accessory belts/pulleys? removing both belts and cranking the motor rules out belts, pulleys, alt, p/s, a/c bearings. mcbrat Posted December 29, 2011 Author Share Posted December 29, 2011 AC Belt tensioner.... it was so toasty, you could hold it by the pulley with the bracket hanging down, and turn it, and the bracket would move with it, and hold at a 90 degree angle without any rotation!
