Oregonsoob
97 legacy 2.5 auto I'm getting a squeaky noise that sounds like it's coming from the front passenger wheel. I took it to a mechanic who jacked it up and found lots of looseness if you push back and forth while holding it at 12 and 6 o'clock on right wheel. There's a tiny bit of play on the left wheel. He thinks its the wheel bearings but he seems to have little if any experience on subarus... I live in a rural area without access to mechanics who are subaru experts so I'm wary that this is the problem. Any other things I should have him check before I have him replace the bearings? He says I shouldn't drive it.
davebugs
Welcome to USMB. Lots of good info and folks here. I've edited out most of my response. But if it's physically loose its bearing, ball joint, or tierod end(s). Even a bad/neglected/dry axle shouldn't cause that. Edited December 28, 2011 by davebugs took out a check or two since it's physically loose
Oregonsoob
Hey there, Thanks for the pointers. We looked over those three things and narrowed it down to the bearings. Once my mechanic pulled out the bearing he found that it had been wearing down the hub so that needed to be replaced as well. Thanks for the help!
