robm
Actually, if you get a good German Shepard, smart and well trained, he would be fine in the house with the kid and the cats, but absolute death on anyone trying to rip you off. A friend of mine has had 2 like this, the kids and cats could chew on the dog's ears without any problem, but they would come home to find wanna-be thieves sitting on the garden shed with the dog rumbling below. It was the same when they lived out in the woods, too, the local crazies soon learned to bother other people when they went off their meds. Friends, however, were always welcome. Those were 2 good dogs.
xbeerd
The CEO of the company i work for has some german shepards, same thing, they are calm and submissive, but with the right command its like you flip a switch and they will damn near kill you. he actually had them trained in Germany by some apparently well known training camp so they only respond to German commands. which is good, since chances are the people they are apprehending probably dont speak German. MilesFox
I have 3 cats. Not fond of them. I would be ok with 2 The old lady insists on having cats. I hate cat fur being ingrained into everything. Our house is not big enough for a dog inside. i dont like little dogs because they are yappy and are bred to go in rabbit holes and viciously kill them (ankle biting reflex) Pit bulls i am not fan of, because they are bred to b e aggressive. Gemrman shepards, however, are bred to obey. That i can go for. Now if i could only trian the local crack heads, wouldnt have these problems. So i have the car put away and have resorted to coin colecting for the moment. But all i need is some crack head to break into my house and rip off 200 bucks in quarters and nickels. I did find 2 silver dimes and one silver war nickel. And i started a 50 state quarter collection. ...This to distract me from subarus for a little bit... And i started a 50 state quarter collection. 1.40 face value in silver coinage is equal to one ounce of silver, and an ounce of silver is going for around 30 dollars right now. Those that don't check their pocket change are suckers.
MilesFox
Even beyond the silver content, there is numismatic value in certain coins as well. 2009 coins were halted in the mint process, and therefore the mintage is low, and hasnt been that low since 1951. Some of the state quarters for 200 9 are rare, such as the territories puerto rico, for example. Michigan and Florida are the rarer of the state coins. I have a good run of wheat pennies, with the oldest being 1917. So far this week i have looked throug about $250 in quarters, 150 in nickels, about $100 in pennies, and a good $150 in dimes. Most of it gets changed out at the bank. I'm not sure how long i will keep it up, but my goals are to collect a whole roll of each example of coin. By doing so i would have almost $2000 in coin by the time the collection reaches that level.
MilesFox
So far no work on the car. I am waiting for the spring to come and thaw my operations. I have not had any trouble with bums and crackheads since there is nothing left for them to steal. I did go junk my snowblower and a full dumpster of aluminum cans. I got 34 dollars for it at the scrapyard. I took that money to the coin dealer and bought an ounce of silver. Then i bought 3 more since i had some cash out of 2 gold watches at the jeweler. I almost broke even at the coin delar trading in some junk jewelry, so i got 3 oz with 5 bucks thrown in to even it up. Now i am sitting on 4 ozt of silver bullion, one 1922 peace dollar (90%), and 4 silver dimes. This makes my holdings worth $128 in bullion, $25 for the peace dollar, and $9.25 for the dimes. This makes me feel rich. Silver historically has a 16:1 ratio to gold. Right now it is about 40:1 (the demand for silver is outpacing the above-ground supply) and is undervalued by manipulation. At $32 per oz, silver SHOULD be worth about $120 compared to gold. MAybe i am buying the hype, but i am on a mission to accumulate as much silver as i can while it remains under $35 per oz. I feel like posting all my things for sale with a price in oz of silver or the equivalent dollar amount based on so many ounces. Buy silver now to protect your dollars from inflation. zukiru
the way people treat paper dollars... we could really help the economy by replacing all the dollar bills with coinage. you're just gonna shove it in your pocket anyway

When i work at jimmy john's, EVERYONE is buying a $4.51 sandwich with either 20's or bank /credit cards. if silver were used as money these days, a 1964 us quarter would buy you 5 bucks. but what would you get as change? today's nickels are worth 6 cents and pennies are worth 3 cents (pre 82) they say if the economy or dollar collapses, you will want to have some of these old silver coins in your possession for barter. Red92
Here's an interesting video about the history of how worthless the penny is. http://blog.cgpgrey.com/death-to-pennies/ 50 cent pieces are pretty unusual now too. I had about 60 of them at one point, but I went on a camping trip and needed some money so I took those. What a nightmare. No vending machines would take them, the young cashiers at the stores thought they were fake, etc. At the campsite, I bought all kinds of small things with them over the span of a week, and they got really upset because they didn't have a spot in their cash register drawer for them, and other people wouldn't take them as change because they wouldn't work in the vending machines. I just spent 2 weeks wasting my time sorting through about $125 in pennies. Of that, i have about $3o in face value of the old copper penies. I got a guy on craigslist offering 1.25xface for them, which comes out to be about $32.50, which is right around the price for one ounce of silver. So considering someone would buy my pennies for more than what it cost me, i am turning 25 bucks into an ounce of silver, or getting silver for 10 less, however you look at it. my ounce of silver today could be worth 100 bucks in the future. Not a bad use for pennies. Althought ebank got annoyed when i asked for $100 in pennies. They limited me to $25. I ended up opening up a bank account at another institutun because i waked in asking for pennies. But i opened the account to use the 'virtual wallet' program anyway. I just picked up 10 silver dimes for 25 bucks. I got a guy on craigslist offering me 50 bucks for about $1.50 in wheat pennies. People are selling us pennies on ebay to canada for 2x face value, beacaue the canadians can melt them down and make a dollar off buying 1 dollar face for 2 dollar, melting them down for 3 dollars per dollar face value. do some youtube searches for 'cent hoarding' to get the idea. I am all of a sudden coin collecting because of this idea when i found the video after searching junk and storage wars. Then i got the idea to hoard silver. maybe i am ludicrous. My one buddy thinks it's an odd idea s sorting coins is time consuming. we'll see. Rent is due and i might just cash in on most of it after picking out the collectible coins. Quidam
I bought 10 silver dollars when they were $9.00 ea. I gave most of them away over the years as presents. Two years ago I made the last one into a ring which I sometimes wear. I got the idea from a friend and he showed me how to do it. I gave a silver quarter to him a while back, he makes rings out of them too and IIRC he made his and his wifes wedding rings out of some. I have one silver dime on hand now tho, that's it. MilesFox
I should have started another thread about the coins, but here is an update. I bought another silver dime for 2.50 when i was at the con shop. I got some coin folders to assemble my collection. I completed the pennies from 1941-1974, all but a few, i have a 1909-1940 folder with 3 pennies in it. I have completed a dime folder starting 1965-current. And i have most of the state quarters fro 2009 through the territories. I went and bought these for 4 bucks each and started filling them up. I had been indexing my coun in baggies with labels in them, which was hard to look through. I picked all thebest ones for my coin folder. I ended up with $105 in dimes and pennies to take back to the bank. Come monday i am getting a $500 dollar box of half dollars to go through. My girl has most of the rent money in her bank, so doing this box of coins is a clever way to move 500 bucks from her bank to mine so that i can write a check. I have $100 in pennies on order from my bank. I am sitting on about $100 in nickels that i am trying to make complete rolls of each date and mint. I did find one silver war nickel. If i get a nickels coin folder i could dump them back in the bank, but i think i might sit on the nickels and accumulate 1 a box of $100 per month as hard cash savings at home, since a us nickel is worth about 6 cents in metal. theroretically i can accumulate the nickels as savings, and in a year or 2, start selling them to canada for more than their face value (in $5.00 increments to adhere to export laws) People are doing it, go look on ebay and see how much pennies are going for. People are getting into hording copper the same as silver or gold. But copper is not worth buying bullion online, since it is readily salvageable everywhere in all sorts of scrap. Pennies is the way to go for this. Some folks are buying scrap eletric motors from ebay, busting them down, and ending up negative by the time they get to the scrap yard. The way to do it is curb pick tv's, fans, and other electrical household items. People are selling 10 lb bags of pennies for 30 bucks, when it contains 15 bucks. Copper is just above 4 bucks per pound at the salvage yard. There are FOOLS who are buying copper ingots on ebay for 4 bucks per OUNCE. it is not being falsely advertized, but there are fools that dont know the difference of the spot price between pounds or ounces for copper. They are fooled becuse the copper comes in nice little stamped bars to look something like a precious metal. A junk alternator would have more copper than that for free. MilesFox
That is the car, minus the wheels, and with a momo steering wheel. It is a little rougher now bodywise. I am asuming the cardomain profile is the guy florida the previous owner had bought it from. (judging by the plants and the tile roof on the buldings) Currently it has hood vents, and 14" steelies with all seasons. The engine is exactly the same but swapped out for the bottom end. I still ahve the original longblock with ported heads and dealer rebuild receipts.. The bottom end was swapped out for a carb 8.5:1 compression.
