fostina1
a little history of finding out what i have in the new member section: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=129642 from reading around it appears the EMPI are the axles of choice, both my boots are tore all the way around. im either going to just reboot them or buy EMPI's and save the originals and reboot them later. are these the right ones? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Subaru/Brat/EMPI_Axle/Axle_Assembly/1985/GL/4_Cyl_1-dot-8L/EMP805515.html?loc=Front%2C+Driver+And+Passenger+Side should i look somewhere else for a better price? suggestiosn? also -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- muffler shop just quoted me $700 for the whole system. seems crazy high to me. im going to take it to him this afternoon to see exactly what needs doing. what other subarus exhaust systems are the same as mine? maybe i could find something at a junkyard or something. he quoted $400 for just the front section with the cat. i found the whole thing on jc whitney for $125, and on rock auto for $160. that sounds alot more reasonable to me. on the back end he said $90 for muffler and $90 for resonator plus the pipe. member here Durania says i dont even need the cat, does it have an o2 sensor? what do i do with that if it does? i apparently violated the terms of service with photobucket, what do you guys use for hosting images? all help will be greatly appreciated. this is the first brat ive ever seen in person and i love it. Not a bad price. I pay about $63 each locally for comparison. also -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- muffler shop just quoted me $700 for the whole system. seems crazy high to me. im going to take it to him this afternoon to see exactly what needs doing. what other subarus exhaust systems are the same as mine? maybe i could find something at a junkyard or something. he quoted $400 for just the front section with the cat. i found the whole thing on jc whitney for $125, and on rock auto for $160. that sounds alot more reasonable to me. on the back end he said $90 for muffler and $90 for resonator plus the pipe. Too high. Just buy the parts online and bolt it on yourself. member here Durania says i dont even need the cat, does it have an o2 sensor? what do i do with that if it does? You don't need the cat. If it has an 02 you still use it. The 02 has nothing to do with the cat. i apparently violated the terms of service with photobucket, what do you guys use for hosting images? Picasa works well for me. GD
fostina1
thanks. i thought the o2 went in the cat. only had it a couple days, still lots of exploring to do lol...
GeneralDisorder
thanks. i thought the o2 went in the cat. If it has one it does go in the cat housing. But you can weld in a bung anywhere after the collector for the O2. It doesn't depend on the function of the cat or a cat being present. newsoobdude
Just picked up an EMPI axle for my 82 BRAT at $64 shipped to my door from partsgeek.com. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1984/subaru/brat/driveshaft_-ar-_axle/axle_assembly.html Took a week to get with the holiday mail service but hey I won't complain. If you don't need SMOG, ditch the Y pipe assembly and go true dual exhaust with a crossover pipe and forgo the cats and resonators as well. That is the plan for mine. That is the plan for mine. i like that idea. are you just gonna put a bung in the crossover for the o2 sensor? i suppose any cheap-o muffler/glasspack will work. i havent decided if i want it loud or quiet yet lol... renob123
I posted this somewhere else a while ago. Don't order from http://www.autopartswarehouse.com if you ever think you'll need any kind of customer service. I had an issue with something I ordered from there, and I had a pretty bad experience when I tried to call them. Not that it's inherently bad, but their call center is in India. The bad part is that they managed to hire some of the rudest Indians I've ever spoken with. +1 for Picasa. Jacob
bratman2
My 87 Brat has no O2 sensor from the factory. I would think yours is the same. Place I buy tires from does exhaust. They ran 2" back from my Y pipe installed my Magnaflow SS muffler for somewhere around $150.00. I have been dealing with these folks for well over 30 years though. The Muffler was about $80. This was a few years ago and they really price wise do me very good but I would say they are still hosing you pretty bad. That is not including the Y pipe with cat.
