martalien
Okay so I was entertaining the idea of taking an ej22 and dropping it into my 1996 Impreza Brighton. I hear that this is a “bolt and go swap.” I just want to make sure that I can run this with my ej18 ecu. Is there anything else that I would need to worry about or change to do make this swap a reality?
bobjr94
Just change intake manifolds and you can keep the wiring on it, they use different idle air controls, swapping manifolds will solve that. If your car has EGR, you will need to ej22 with egr port in the head too. If not you might get engine light from time to time.
GeneralDisorder
You *should* change to the EJ22 ECU and add the knock sensor. The EJ18's aren't equipped with knock sensors and you really should have one. GD
idosubaru
it's really easy, there's nothing to it. the easy way is to keep the EJ18 intake manifold and bolt it to the EJ22. computer doesn't matter, it'll run fine, except that like GD said it's better to have the EJ22 ECU.
