stock90
I'm trying to install a CD player into my 90' Loyale. the wiring from the stock radio/cassette is really confusing, the wires don't even match each other (in color at least) on either end of each plug. Just wondering if anyone knew which wires went where. I already know the blue(from the old head unit) goes to power, but thats about all I could tell, the wires at each speaker don't match up to anything either, its really screwy. Thanks for any help. Subafreak
There has to be a thread on this somewhere already! Anyway Stock Subaru radios use a single ground for the speaker wires, (DON"T do this for the new deck) You will have to run new speaker wires to the front speakers, (At least to the plug that run through the doors) If you unhook the stock plug for the front speakers you can use the stock wires to power the rear speakers. The color code is. (according to my book) Green = batt. power Blue w/yellow = key power Black = gound White w/blue = right rear+ Blue w/black = right rear - Yellow w/white = left rear + Blue w/red = left rear - Tape up the white and yellow wires and just run new speaker wire to the fronts like I said. And make sure to unplug the stock connecters to the front speakers. They can be found behind the kick panel plates and the left side should have a Blue w/red and Yellow wire going into a plug that comes out with a Blue and a White wire. The blue will be ground and the white will be power. In the left kick panel you will find a plug with a White and a Blue w/black wire going in and a White and a Blue wire comming out. The White is the pos. and the Blue is the neg. The plugs "should" be red. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

stock90
Bad News! My head unit seems to be stuck in some kind of self-protect mode. I pulled it out of my last car (after it was totalled) and I must have done something to screw it up. anybody dealt with this before. I have an AIWA head unit. I don't recall the specific model. Thanks for all the other help it was all right on.
thealleyboy
What do you mean by "self protect" mode? You might consider buying a new unit. I'm running a rock-botton Pioneer (about $120) in my 93, and even that one is excellent. Also, Kenwood has a very nice one for under $100. I used to piss around with old stereo equipment, but not any more. It's just not worth the effort, IMO. The new stuff is dirt cheap, sounds great, and is hassle free if you are willing to run some wires yourself. As mentioned above, the factory wiring to the rears needs to be altered or replaced to be compatible with the modern systems. Don't forget to upgrade the speaks too if you want a really kick-rump roast sound system. The stock Clarions won't cut it. good luck, John
Subafreak
I suprized that you don't have the code to unlock the CD player, that is if you "really" had it in your old car. Anyway you can't find the code anywhere you might have to send it out to the manufaturer so they can recode it for you. At this point you have to decide if it's worth it or just go get another cheap deck. Thats up to you though. To make sure, try finding a audio store that sells AIWA units, they might know how to take care of it.
