touring
it was my dream rig:( besides the color which is red it was the best scooby doo ive had yet. was/is a 87 touring model with dual range that was phenomenal for climbing and snow, now no door handle on the driver door and minor body blemishes here and there , tilt wheel and electric windows a rebuilt ea81 that just overheated and is now knocking, the stronger of the two 13" western steel rims all around which are painted black and about two thirds tire tread on mud and snow tires dont know what to do , also have my old 90 loyal which is burgundy and a lil rough around the edges but runs good. considering buying my touring model from the ins, they also are totally low balling for a settlement offer:( considering what i paid for the car and the fact that it is indeed a specialty vehicle.(all older subys are if you ask me but...) open to any thoughts and would consider a trade to get me into a good runner again. i also have an ea81T that i could consider for the right arrangemant. lots of good stuff here, no time or space to part it all, so could be a win win:) cheers! GeneralDisorder
I would push the insurance company to give you more because it's a rare touring model and only made the US market for '89. GD
1 Lucky Texan
I would push the insurance company to give you more because it's a rare touring model and only made the US market for '89. GD Get on the phone, call soob dealerships, in several States if necessary, tell the used car manager you're an insurance adjuster and just need to know what an '89 like yours would actually sell for if they had it on their lot. That's about the best you can do. I had to do that when trying to negotiate for an 'odd' older car once - just to get a baseline. Also, if you could come up with receipts for recently rebuilt or new major parts - that could help get a little more. Do NOT do the above and THEN try to buy it back lol! man on the moon
If the money part fails, swap the EA82 into the touring model (I thought touring DLs had 82s to start with but I get lost in the small/minor trims and models). A little body damage is either repairable, or live-with-able. Was that the only reason it was totalled?
idosubaru
if the accident was someone elses fault - you need to threaten lawyer and go that route if necessary. don't try to do it on your own unless you're really well versed in this process. if you're straight forward you'll never need a lawyer though, insurance companies never add value to their processes if that happens. buy back should be cheap. if it wasn't someone elses fault and you're dealing with your own insurance then listen to these jokers here, that's out of my realm. if you expected higher than average coverage that should probably be talked about ahead of time, in which case your premiums may have been higher, but they weren't. "you get what you pay for" so to speak.
