davebugs
Ultra grey. But don't get carried away with it. May need a new crank seal too.
danbennett2u
Ok thanks. Shawn said he would hook me up with the crank seal as well as the pump. Not really looking forward to doing this. I hate changing timing belts.
johnceggleston
use RTV ultra gray, a thin coat. you don't want globs of it to squish inside and get pumped around the engine. crank seal. oil pump o-ring. i'm sure shawn will help with this as well. Yep - I forgot the Oring. Old ones will be smashed(one on each pump).
danbennett2u
each pump?
davebugs
An oil pump has ONE Oring. WHat I meant was the Oring on each pump (the one you're taking off and the used one you'll be installing) will both be squashed(no longer round) and old so neither will work well. And either will likely break when you try to remove.
danbennett2u
Oh ok. I think Shawn said he could get me the oring too, dont really remember was at the end of a 12 hour shift. If not oh well can get from the chain parts stores right?
danbennett2u
um looking at pics on this... do I have to pull the fricking gear off of the crankshaft in order to replace the pump? any tips on this?
GeneralDisorder
Yes - you have to remove the timing belt and the crank sprocket. It's not that big of a deal - just slides off. GD
Fairtax4me
It SHOULD just slide off. Both of my cars it slid off with little effort. I tried to get an oil pump from a junkyard car and couldn't get the sprocket to budge to save my life. Pried at it for a few minutes with a 24" prybar, broke one of the teeth off, then gave up and found a pump on another car.
987687
I've seen more stick really tight than I've seen come off with ease. Probably has to do with living in Maine, working on cars up here requires quite a bit more abuse than it should.
