Lukas
Our EJ20 we got in Europe, no matter if Turbo or N/A, are interference, like TheLoyale said!
njdrsubaru
even the ones from the 90s? I thought those were based on the ej22
ivans imports
all twin cam but most jdm used hydrolic lifters but still interferance the 96 2.5 used the same valve train if heads are wreaked hydroic to hydrolic solid to solid you can tell if it has a valve addjustment spec on under hood sticker or not
turboguzzi
where are you looking? I am based in Italy and might have some tips for you as where to search. Take into account that subaru came pretty late into the market in europe, and 94-98 are not going to be easy to come by. In any case check well with the embassy of the country if this is possible in the first place. in some countries, like italy, a non EU citizen can not buy a car unless he has a valid stay permit. I think that holland/belgium are more relaxed TG
danbennett2u
I too was under the impression that there was a SOHC ej20e that is almost identical to the ej22. you guys sure that ALL of them are interference? European vs JDM may be a difference
Gloyale
The non-USDM SOHC EJ20 is a non interference. Same heads as an EJ18 and EJ22 SOHC. Although fitted with roller follower, solid rockers(adjustable) Basically the same as our EJ22 here.

He is buying a vehicle in South America, so he has a vehicle to drive when he arrives there. (Beats taking the Bus!) Good thing we got this straitened out, I learned something new today!
