95legwagon
just put a deposit down for a 97 5 speed tranny and matching rear end off same car. this will fit on my 95 legacy wagon right? i know about everything else just making sure it'll bolt up and uses a cable clutch..... now how about rear dif ratio? its supposed to be a 3.90 but i thought the 95 4eat was that same ratio...... im prolly wrong but someone needs to clarify this for me thanks guys. p.s. trans n rear diff have 193k on them but i was actually able to test drive the car at the junkyard and it shifts like a dream LMAO got them both for $350.... not a bad deal considering i didnt hafta remove them myself! so far my costs as far as 5 speed swap are this. tranny and rear diff. $350 shifter linkage, shifter trim n boot, pedal assy. and trans crossmember $25 mt wagon driveshaft from 95 wagon. $75 still need clutch kit and flywheel and flywheel mounting bolts (cuz they are longer) anyone got some bolts for me? im doin this on a budget and ive done well so far for parts. wiring should be fun. **ALSO NEED WIRING DIAGRAM FOR (95 4EAT)** where the plug is in the engine bay..... like a pinout so i know which wires to splice into where and what not lol thanks guys!!!! 987687
The automatics either had 4.11 or 4.44. Yours is probably the former. So you will have to swap the rear end. Why don't you just get the clutch and pedal setup from the same car you got the transmission out of? You probably will want to replace the clutch and have the flywheel re-surfaced. But you'll have all the parts. Also, make sure you get the transmission crossmember and bolts. If you're going with cable setup, I'd probably buy a new cable from subaru. They're only about $60, and it sucks when they break. My 96 had the cable break with only about 100k. Yes, it was routed correctly. You can make a transmission use either cable or hydraulic setup. When you pull the clutch fork off you can remove the ball it pivots on. There are two different spots you can bolt it in. I believe top one is for hydro, bottom is for cable. 95legwagon
well i already got the pedals and clutch cable.... i just need this old cable for now so i can keep my car on the road....when i get it up and running and i get the funds (shortly after its done) ill buy a new cable lol also that kept my mind at ease knowing that i can switch that tranny to cable because i think GD told me 90-96 ( non turbo) was all cable and i bought a 97 so i was a lil worried cuz thats all i could find lol. im gunna buy a new clutch kit and probably a used flywheel....just not sure if i wanna go used or new yet.... i need flywheel bolts though...any idea where to get those? AdventureSubaru
I have the clutch setup - bolts, clutch, pressure plate etc. off an EJ18. not sure if they're the same for your EJ22, but if so, I got the stuff.
987687
You could check rock auto and such for flywheel bolts. But you're either going to have to get them from the dealer. Or junkyard. They're re-usable. A used flywheel is fine as long as it's not cracked. Just have it re-surfaced, call your local machine shops for quotes. It's a pretty simple flywheel to have done. Fairtax4me
Was the car you got the trans from a 2.2 or 2.5?
95legwagon
well it was a 97 legacy (non outback) so im guessing 2.2..... didnt really look at it to be honest..... it was @ the junkyard and was already running so i drove it around in the yard and all the gears work and shifts realllll smooth from 1-5 and reverse.....so i put a big yellow cone on it and they are removing it for me with the rear end for $350 total cost..... deal? i think so having the flywheel resurfaced....is that usually expensive or not? doin this on a budget....im broke....get paid $300 every week and i pay all the bills for 2 people (me n my gf) so moneys kinda tight for this
987687
Since you're getting the rear end with it, it doesn't matter what engine it originally had. BUT, it would be more desirable for you if it was a GT model, because then it would have 4.11 final drive. Since you're auto is a 4.11 that means your speedometer would read correctly. If the 5speed you're getting is a 3.90 your speedo will be off.
95legwagon
oh man lol.... wasnt a gt.... how much would it be off by? anything i can do to remedy that?
987687
It'll read a couple percent slow. You can get a conversion box, but they're a bit spendy.
