subarurx yo
im dealing with a 85 ea82 carb wagon, it backfires while cranking over and wont start and ive triple checked cam timing, firing order and set dizzy where rotor points to hill holder at 0 degrees and tried on center of the three marks on flywheel. it also has delta cams in it and remove egr stuff, was a smooth runner until i changed the block and did a full reseal ive put together a ea82t 4 or 5 times without this much problems
Robert Harik
Can't think of anything but valve or ignition timing.
MilesFox
you might have the firing order off. Typically, if #2 and #4 are crossed, you get a backfire at the throttle. rotation is couterclockwise 1,3,2,4 with #1 being the closest to the clip on the back of the cap. Double check the timing belts. At 0 deg TDC, the cam sprockets will be pointing at the hard edges of the valve cover, with the passenger side pointing at the bottom edge. I am only explainin:burnout:g this since you mention you had the engine apart and back together.
subarurx yo
I'm certain the cam timing is on I left the shrouds off also so I can see what's going on I'll mess with firing order tomorrow

fixingrusinc83
you say you have double checked timing but if your book or manual is wrong it will be wrong 100 times. So not to question but one side will be at 0 degrees or 12 oclock and the other will be at 180 degrees or 6 oclock have corrected dozens of these that owner was working out of this or that manuel. Only trying to help.
