S. Baru
Found an '86 GL Wagon with 67K on it. 5-sp with Dual Trans. Completely stock. I haven't been able to look at it, but they claim it's rust-free. Any thoughts on what would be a fair offer range? I'm not looking to "steal" the car from them, but would like a good deal.
desertsubaru
What do they want for it? Offer $400 below what they want then haggle with them. In my opinion the 86 models are one of the best years for subes.
S. Baru
They want $3000

desertsubaru
3k and even $2500 IMO is way to high for a 26 year old wagon. These are not rare classic cars and probably never will be. I would never pay that much for a plain Jane 86 wagon but if you really want it Offer 2k.

aba4430
Low miles, no rust, excellent mechanically (?) and cosmetically: NADA values are as follows (zip 32571): Original MSRP $8,842; Low Retail $2500; Average Retail $3350; High retail $4650 If you really like it go for the best deal, but be flexible at the same time, or you may not get it. MilesFox
pay that if it has new tires, brakes, struts, seals, timing belts, etc. If the car sat for 10 yrs, expect leaky seals, dryrot tires, old brake fluid, timing belts that will break as soon as you start driving it. If this is so, offer 1500 and the seller will realize there is only so much he can sell it for, and take the money rather than sit on the car. Durania
Jeeze. I paid less than that for my 95 Outback. Sure is in damn fine shape though.
TheLoyale
Outbacks are a dime a dozon though, Finding a Factory Clean EA82 is harder and is worth it for those who are into keeping the car until they are in 70. Personally, I paid $500 for my '95 Outback, I also paid $500 for my '92 Loyale, I paid $1,200 for my '83 GL which is the most rotted out of the bunch lol! S. Baru
Well, it sold today. I'm assuming for the 3K asking price. I really wanted it but wasn't willing to shell out that much sight unseen. Thanks for all the advice.
Subarule
86 GL wagons are getting really hard to find, ones that are clean, rust-free and haven't been messed with. They may be plentiful depending on where you live but not stock or near-stock condition. And who wants someone's else's FrankenSube? If you don't believe me, pick any major city in the U.S. and do a Craigslist search for an 86 GL. Nice ones are getting to be as rare as hen's teeth.
