goat
good day my 92 loyale feels unsteady/whishy washy not like steering wheel play or drift more like it feels like it wants to slide out while cornering (and not under hard acceleration either) sorry l cant give a better description, it's my ladys car so l dont have much first hand experience she says it feels less bouncy/handles better when in 4wd.... l dont know anything about suspension so how do l go about checking/troubleshooting thanks in advance goat
man on the moon
Before you spend time and a dime on the suspension, check your tires. Are they worn down? Worn evenly? No odd, rough, uneven, bumps, some more/less worn than the others? Are any worn unevenly? It could be suspension, but a walk around with eyeballs--or even a quick alignment at a shop (about $50-$90) will rule this out before you get into the time of trouble shooting your suspension. goat
the tires are fine old but not unevenly worn..... l'll take a closer look when l get a chance though (out of town at the moment) though l seem to remember my mom complaining of the same thing (the car was hers until fairly recently) thanks goat
AKghandi
I'd start with the axle nuts make sure they are tight (150ftlbs) Then. CHeck the front control arms Make sure all nuts/bolts are tight up there Do the same for the rear Jack it up and rotate the wheels and shake them to check the wheel bearings Jump up and down on the bumpers to check the struts My wagon had this same problem it was a loose axle nut on my rear wheel.. And a bad wheel bearing in the front.(I've since replaced all 4 wheel bearings.) Any weird noises? Hummin grinding thunks or clunks?
tundrabrat
When did it start... the roads are pretty crappy all of a sudden around here and a combo of ify tires and running in front wheel drive will definitely give you a noticable change in the handling. Not that it isn't a suspension issue but start with the simple stuff. If you need to get under the car your welcome to put it in my garage and get under it... I like the name change BTW. MilesFox
wheel bearings can be vagie. they an be failing , but are not detected by classical procedure, buty ou get a delayed steering response where the car feels like it turns more one way than the other. The bearings are a-typical from other vehicles, being dual roller bearings in the front versus a hub style or spindle style.
