ShawnW
I have a Tacoma with an outside temp and compass display in the ceiling. Its a known problem where the resistors come off the circuit board. I tried soldering it but I am having no luck with it. Anybody want to give it a try? I mail it to you/you send me a quote to fix it or tell me its scrap? Thanks
TomRhere
I used to repair some of the control boards at the previous work place. I could give it a try.
ivans imports
I repair ecus from time to time if you file down the end of a fine point soder pen and use a good flux core soder. Most boards are coated so have to clean any coating off. I use a big magnifying glass to c the cirucut in detail. I just did a ecu for 02 outback shop had pinched wire and burnt a trace was able to remake it with one straind of wire sodered across the burnt trace. GeneralDisorder
The key is having the right solder, electronics grade flux, and a good adjustable wattage iron. GD
TomRhere
GD speaks the truth on need of "proper tools". I have access to what I need. Well, other then the 30 years younger eyeballs...... Magnifing glasses are an "old mans" Godsend.....:-p
IASUBE
Yep GD and Tom are correct, I've been doing it all day for many years, the place I work for does componet level repair/test/calibration on control electronics for the power production industry. Correct tools and procedures go a long ways to a quality repair. We even do some board repairs on heavly damaged 30+ year old boards. I'd could take a shot at it Shawn.. if you want to send it this way. IASUBE
eulogious
A little late to the game here, but I have fixed my 62" HDTV that had 130 bad SMD caps between 5 motherboards when I got it. It's been 2 months since I fixed that bad boy and haven't had a problem since. Needless to say, I have gotten pretty damn good at soldering stuff, especially surface mount stuff. Through hole is a piece of cake. Took me less than 5 min to solder in a resistor to fix a ej swapped digidash tach If you want to send it up to me, I can take a look at it. LMK!
