splitboarder
I pulled the trigger on a 6 inch SJR 6 inch lift last night . I have some questions about struts and spings though I have a 1997 legacy L wagon. It sit LOW as it is. I want to run 205/75 r 15 or 205/75/r16 on it with no fender rub. ( I may have to go with 215 instead ) Should I keep the stock sturts and springs ...or should I install outbach struts? And if I go with outback struts do I need outback spings also? A 97 outback- is it a legacy or impreza ? or do I go with 1999 ? will outback struts bolt right up or do I need to drill new holes/ modify anything? Thanks. Im a bit confused right now Edited March 27, 2012 by splitboarder
NorthCoast
Use the Outback springs and struts. With the lift kit you won't have to redrill anything. You will be able to run a 215 with no fender rub with the lift kit as well. Install the kit prior to purchasing new tires because you maybe able to go bigger. I run 215/75/15 with just Outback struts and springs. The only rub I get is on the inside of my wheel wells during tight turns.
splitboarder
When I look for struts on the web at internet sites (like patrs geek) in the year 1997 I only get three choices. Legacy, Impreza and SVX. They dont show a difference or, dont have an "outback" choice . Do I have to go to a 1999 year model?
Gloyale
Get 99 LEGACY OUTBACK struts. 235/75/15 will be as big as you can go, unless you get wheels with a deeper dish. With the Subaru wheels, the tire will hit the spring perch in the rear if any bigger. 215/75/15 = yes 215/75/16 = no
splitboarder
Thanks Gloyale You hit the nail on the head. Its 1999 that is different between the two. 1997- no difference

splitboarder
spent a while looking at Oriely's website( easy to go between years and models) , entering in each year then each type. legacyL ,brighton ,outback and outback limited ( 1999). Part numbers were the same for 97,98 but 99 the outback were different. Funny thing, even the 97 legacy and the 99 legacy had the same part numbers
