jeryst
A couple of weeks ago, my 90 Turbo 4WD Loyale began to do something weird. As I was going down the road, blue clouds of smoke began to pour out of the back. I thought that I blew a head gasket, but since I was out in the middle of nowhere, I figured I would just drive it until I got to a service station, or until it blew up. After about 30 seconds, it stopped smoking. When I got home, I checked the oil and water. No signs of water in the oil, and no signs of oil in the water. It has done it several more times, and I have noticed a pattern. If I start the car when cold, and let it warm up before driving it, it does not do it. If I start the car and drive it immediately, it does not smoke until it starts to warm up. Then it smokes like crazy for about 30 seconds, then quits. I cant really tell anything by the oil level because I have a few leaks, so the oil level is usually down whenever I drive it any distance. When it starts smoking, I can smell oil, so I am thinking that oil is somehow briefly leaking onto the exhaust system and burning off, which causes the clouds of smoke. But why it quits and doesn't do it again until cold is the puzzling part. I'm not sure what is going on, and I would appreciate any theories as to what is happening. Dj7291993
Well, for future, coolant burns white, oil burns blue (smoke, not flame). Is it under a load (accel, hill), cruise, deceleration, something else? It probably is due to you engine not fully sealing until it gets warm, and sucking some oil past the rings. Or, it could be blowing it through your pcv system.
AKghandi
Sounds like a bad turbo to me. I had the same problem on a dodge daytona shelby. It would smoke like a SOB when i started it and when i gave it gas but not while i was decellerating. You can always do a leak down test to help determine the issue Check the turbo for signs of leaks, check the outlet for signs oil etc. It kinda sucks but its better than valve seals. And some brake fluid in the oil may help stop the smoking

I know it can work as leak preventive, but it can also ruin things. There is a reason you do not want to spill it on your paint!
