Datsunrides
Well guys, I finally pulled the trigger and opened my own shop! JCARS is dedicated to servicing all japanese classic autos and cycles from the 60's to the early 80's with an emphasis toward body and paint. You can take a look at my very basic website at http://www.jcarservices.com (hey, I'm a car guy, not a web designer! ) I am planning to have a grand opening/BBQ/swap meet sometime in early May and I will let you know when the date is nailed down. Hopefully some local members will attend. I'll get some pics of the shop up soon for you guys. I'd be honored to help you keep you car on the road or get your project back on the road! moosens
Mark , Good luck !! Been thinking about a similar shop here on this coast. Our cars are rising in popularity !!!! Gas prices will do that !!! Good time to open a shop like yours.
Datsunrides
Kosta, I have a feeling if I tried to open a shop 2 years ago, there is a good chance I'd be homeless! Nipper, I can rebuild carbs, but the biggest problem I've seen is how many times someone has tried to "rebuild" them before and done it so poorly that nothing short of a new carb will fix them. If they are on a running car, I can usually do something about it, but as a bench rebuild, it's unfortunately a roll of the dice sometimes. Moosens, I sure hope so. Franchise? moosens
Wish I could,Mark. I'll certainly keep that in mind. Meanwhile I'm eyeing up a few locals to possibly approach about this venture. The shift is definitely on here - at least among the working class - where the big lux-de-lux vehicle is out and the beater , commmuter , Asian car is IN. What I'd really like to see is a company dedicated to manufacturing "patch and paste over" sections to keep cars passing inspections in those nasty states like PA ,etc. where they'll pull your car from the road with a rust bubble. Combine those with common replacement parts in stock and I feel you'll draw a good sized customer base rather quickly. A little shop - maybe one or two bays for repairs. Something folks can walk into and feel they're understood and appreciated for what they have. Gotta fly! Ciao!
