joshuare
Hi all - looking to replace an automatic tranny in a friend's 98 Outback. Anyone know of a good how-to online for this job? I have been looking around for a while, can't find one. Thanks!

Olnick
Welcome aboard joshuare. Check out some of the "Similar Threads" at the bottom of your post. Or try the "Search" function. There's been lots written over the years. Good luck.
AdventureSubaru
Just did this swap for the first time a couple months ago. It's heavy, and it takes a while, but it's not hard to do. Far easier if you use a tranny jack. Some will recommend pulling the engine first. Seating the torque converter is the only tricky part. There's a write up somewhere that if you follow the instructions, takes maybe a minute to do it right.
