WASHroad
Hi all, my 1988 GL TBI EA82 has the Check Engine light going on and off in the last month of so. Problem is now I need to run thru emissions. I pulled the code and got code 34. My manual says that is EGR stuck on on or off. I checked the EGR system and it tests good. EGR valve opens and closes as you rev and decel the engine. I tried to clear the ECU by hooking up the Clear Code connectors but now the ECL just stays on. The car seems to be running fine, a bit down on mileage, but that could be gas and weather. Is there any thoughts on the code 34 beside the one from my manual? Oh is it NOT a OME manual. The light seems to go out while cold and warming up, one at operating temp it comes on. Sometimes while warm it will go back off, but my drives are short, 8-15 mile drives. l75eya
EGR Solenoid. Might still be functioning...but not quite properly. Would throw that code. I've had that code for about a year now. Disconnected the CEL. until I come across a cheap solenoid. Nice looking wagon, by the by.
WASHroad
Thanks for the tip, I see there is a (2) wire lead going into it. May have to look at a replacement. Been happy with the Subie, one of the many cheap runners everyone seems to pick up. Bought 2 years ago, price + repairs + mods I have just over 800 into it. Put 30K on it and get 26-29 MPG
czny
I had the same code on my 87 GL TBI when I first bought it in 2007 - 34 with intermittent CEL. Found the solenoid coil had infinite resistance when the CEL went continuous. Dealer wanted $150:eek: Found one @ local PAP for $5:banana:
Cougar
Very nice looking Loyale WASHroad. That is a real buy for the price you paid for it. Somebody did a major restoration on it.
