mobious03
My wife has a 95 Subaru Legacy Wagon. It has 147,000 miles on it and the other day it wouldn't start. It ran fine the day before and then it would just turn over with no fire. I replaced the fuel filter and it still didn't start. I then checked plugs and was getting no spark. I replaced the ignition coil pack with a brand new one and it started right up. It ran for a week fine, then I drove it in the morning (ran and started fine) then went to start it up in the evening and the same proble...it just turned over and over and over and wouldn't fire. I am have no idea what is wrong now, unless I have a short in the wiring somewhere and that is shorting out the coil pack. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am lost... davebugs
Welcome to the USMB. I get dislexic(sp?) about this. I think Crank sensor does spark, cam sensor does fuel. But I could be exactly backwards - I have to rethink it every time. Search may turn up what you need. The crank sensor can be stubborn sometimes. Cougar
You should verify that the coil is getting power to it while the trouble is occuring. There may be a intermittent connection problem and the other coil may have really been ok. Power to the ignition system should always be checked first when the ignition system doesn't work. nipper
This can be a few things, but if one time it starts and runs, the next time it doesn't, I would look at the crank sensor first
mobious03
Thanks everyone for the advice. I replaced the crank sensor and the car fired right up. I was wandering, since I have replaced the coil pack and the crank sensor, should I replace the cam sensor as preventative maintance or not worry about it. Also, the engine has leaked oil for a while and it appears to be coming from the main seal. Is it possible to replace that seal on my own or do I need to take it in somewhere. How hard would it be to replace it and roughly what is the time frame for such a job. Again thanks for the advice.
Recian
If its front main you may as well do a timing set and itll come with. Theyre easy to change. Plus the oil will contaminate the belt. Rear one is a bit more difficult.
