njdrsubaru
hey guys ive just finished my 5spd swap on my outback... now it feels like the tras doesnt have AWD... today is raining here in the NE, when i tried to take off from a stop light the front wheels were spinning and no traction to the rear.... is there something wrong with this trans? there is no torque bind
Fairtax4me
Aside from mechanical failures, the center diff could just be worn out. It's easy to replace though. Can be done fairly easily with the transmission in the car. Pull off the tailshaft housing and check things out.
njdrsubaru
hmmm sounds the same as the auto trans.... hmmm do u have a schematic of the manual trans?
Fairtax4me
I don't think I've seen a full write up dedicated to just swapping the center diff. This is a thread from a few months back about a bad center diff in a Forester. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/...mission+squeal It just has a few pictures of the transfer section of the trans. Then you can try to familiarize yourself with the FSM here: http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru_manual_scans/
njdrsubaru
great thanks now I just put the car on jack stands and all 4 wheels are spinning hmm I'm puzzled btw the forum link you posted isnt working Edited April 22, 2012 by njdrsubaru
hankosolder2
Well, there's enough torque to spin all four wheels when it's up on jack stands under no load, and then there's enough torque to actually transfer some power when attempting to accellerate a 3000lb car. That's my guess, and it is a guess.
njdrsubaru
so that means the clutch plates on the viscous are frien an they can't propel the 3000lbs car when the power is sent to the rear
Fairtax4me
Something screwy with the link then. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=128615&highlight=Info+rebuild Maybe thatnll work!
1-3-2-4
I launched my car today and I got some rear wheel spin I would think if it's really worn it would act like an open diff. Also njdrsubaru did you pm me today? My PM box was full. I gotta donate again

1-3-2-4
yeah I tried to... I was gonna ask u if u had tht much of front wheel spin Nope nope not at all It's easy to get the car sideways when wet out. I tried it in gravel about 2 weeks ago and I get some rear wheel spin still as well.
