Etiquette and common courtesy

Recommended Posts

Hey there all:

We have talked about this before and I guess we need to revisit it again. I have heard from others that have recently experienced the same behavior from other members, (new/newer members), as I just did.

ABOUT courtesy to other board members. I recently took MY time to call someone about parts and offer information, then pull parts out, photograph them and email multiple times. Guess what, no reply, even though this member continued to post on the forum.

Please bear in mind that these cars are our hobby and not a business for most of us. (I am an educated, white collar, medical professional). The fun is the friendships and comradery we experience. I do what I can to help others and have helped for MANY years. I know these cars inside and out and just enjoy chatting with other enthuiasts! But my time is valuable, as is yours...please don't waste it!!!!

Remember, most of us don't need to sell anything and if you think prices are too high, than go find it elsewhere, or at least say it's too much if that's the problem. Counter offer! Gosh, how do we price a rare piece of stupid plastic trim that EVERYBODY wants??? It's called supply and demand. If you change your mind, simple drop an line to the person. It's really pretty easy!

These cars are over 30 years old and finding good parts is VERY difficult. Many of the items that I have, (in particular), I have kept, stored, moved, moved again, let alone buying the item to begin with. All of us on the board are fair, but I assure you, people, are not going to give away new items and quality used rare parts! Sure we all want freebies and good deals and certainly they are out there, but don't expect it everytime! Fair is more realistic.

Think about all the time you put into searching, going from yard to yard and coming up empty handed. Then if you do find something you want, you have to pull it, get dirty, sweat, skin your knuckles, wait in line, pay taxes, entrance fees, enviro fees, for gas and time. (Have you priced parts in a salvage yard lately)??? Then you have to shower and clean up when you get home! It's nice to have a part come in the mail ready to put on your car!!! Point is, most of us, with stores of parts, are not just going to give them away and spend OUR time digging them out, taking photos, packing and shipping for nothing.

The other point is if you buy something, PAY for it. Some folks will ship and wait for payment and trust it will come. Well some people get the item and don't pay....not cool folks! Let's be honest with each other.

I am one of the founders here and a moderator. I have seen MANY people come and go over the years. Please know that we are a close bunch of people. We respect one another. So when we open up dialog with someone who is going to help us....please close the loop. It's not all about just finding our part! Cars are a journey....not a destinaton! We WILL ALWAYS need something, (parts, or information), for our cars and most-likely somebody ELSE will have it

Let's have fun folks!

Super sorry if this has anything to do with me, been crazy busy and losing track of everything going on so its taking me longer than usual to respond to all of my e-mails. Realllllllly appreciate you taking tht time to talk to me and hopefully sell me some parts. Do appologize for it taking me so long to get back to you.

No, it's not you Blindsight. I'm not that quick on the trigger!! :headbang:

It is happening more and more to not just me, so I figured I better say something to keep the peace!

What really get's me though, is those who don't pay, or those that don't ship, (after being paid).

Yea - I was finally burnt recently after shipping lots of parts to lots of members before payment.

A rather new poster. I'm out 200 bucks and a very nice wooden box that I borrowed to send the parts in that was supposed to be returned empty.

And my income last year was down 80-90 % and have had no income this year as I continue to recover from an auto accident last Feb.

I'm not exactly destitute but every hundred bucks helps. It literally hurt me to remove and package the parts.

It was bound to happen I realize.

Which brings me back to this site and donations to keep it alive. I always donate a portion of my sales to keep this site up because many folks are helped by it.

Not the busiest site but lots of good info already here and generally cordial.

My main hobby is antique VW's and believe it or not those folks are worse on prices. Maybe because a lot of them are young. These folks often wanna pay less for an old german part I paid for and pulled years ago than some new Mexican part from JC Whitney. This is another one of those times a fella hopes that Karma does exist.

Some guy I found on eBay just had to *************** to me , and rightly so , about one of us backing out of a harness deal. I'll add more later.

OK I'm back.

Yeah , what Todd said .... I'm too tired to add but basically the same thing. Be considerate of people's effort and the entirety of it all when getting someone to drive , pay , labor , box , drive , and ship your part.

And in some cases consider that if you're buying new old stock that somebody went thru a heck of a lot to get it , retain it , and continue to house it in storage that ain't cheap.

Rant done. Thanks for reading. I realize many of us this does NOT apply to. So you few cretins , get with the program !!!

Haha moosens that was indeed me the guy is referring to but there wasn't a deal to brgin with, I asked him if he had a harness, he said he would try to get it without mention of price or it being a big deal...then he sent pictures and said it would be $90 plus shipping...which might not be a bad price but is way more than I have to spend on a harness so I told him I was still interested in the other items he had for sale and agreed upon a price but id have to pass on the harness. If he had told me it would be that much in the first place I would have told him I wasn't interested. Not trying to be a jecrk to anyone, just can't agree to buy something for whatever price someone sets just because they think I should.

You guys are right....we all need to try better to not run when we get our part, answer, or sale. Let's try to close the loop as I say! Otherwise, we will come after you and put sand in your Subi gas tank!
