thedoctor
I am preparing to put my ea81 back in my 83 DL. I noticed this thing has a hole in it. What can you tell me about it?
cawain
Well I guess I can tell you less than nothing. I would say it had a vacume fitting where the hole is. I think it is maybe part of the choke pulloff. I have a few old EA-81 motors sitting around that may have some of the wierd parts you are finding. If you need anything send me a picture and I will try to find it. If I have it, you can have it for the shipping. Carl
thedoctor
Thank you. Let me know if you see one of these in your collection. I'm going to need to replace it, but I'm going to try to get this thing running over the next few days.
phantomD
That assembly is the idle-up for the factory air conditioner. When the a/c compressor kicks in, vacuum is applied from a solenoid sitting with relays on the passenger strut tower to the unit (where you are currently looking at a hole) which then tugs the accelerator cable slightly to increase idle speed while the compressor is running.
