1995legacyAWD Posted April 27, 2012 Share Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) Hey I had a quick question for everyone I just found out the motor on my 96 legacy outback 2.2 is old smokey...There is a motor from a 95 legacy 2.2 at the wrecking yard would it work in my 96? davebugs Posted April 27, 2012 Share Posted April 27, 2012 The 96 very likely had EGR so it's replacement will need to also (which means a 95 AUTO engine is needed). Other than that you'll need the 95's dual port Ypipe. Or any dual port Ypipe(like off any 95-99) 2.5 DOHC. If you had a USEFUL location someone near you might have one. It will be single port exhaust. 95 legacy motor will have dual ports so yes you'll need y-pipe. 95 w/auto is EGR, w/manual trans will be no EGR....that would be the best.
