97 Legacy Lift

I started lifting my low riding legacy L friday night. Outback struts on first pain in the rump roast, but its done. Started with the front this morning at 8:30 and the front is done. Crossmember is done and now Im on the back. Everything has been going smooth, kit fits together perfect.

 

Two questions

 

I have 8 black washers in a separate baggie marked rear control arm. Of course the rear control arm, but where?

 

There are four brass colored bolts .......where do I use those four?

Lift is installed !

 

Still need

 

steering shaft extended

Transmission cable needs a bracket to lower the cable connection point

Make brackets for rear sway bar

figure out how to re-connect air intake so that mass air folw sensor and vacum hoses are connected

 

Alignment

 

The

tires and wheels

Yeah. Pics would be great.

 

If all you swapped was struts and springs, you don't need to extend the steering shaft. Get some pics up of those extra bolts too. as well as a size for the head at least. 14mm? 17mm?

Thanks. I will have to change out two bolts in the antilift. I put the black flat washers on the bolts holding the lift block for the rear differential. I must need to go back and change those out to lock washers.

FINISHED THE INSTALL

 

Still need to do the alignment. So far the only issue I had was the exhast pipe was hitting the rear axle . i test drove it and couldnt figure out the noise. took a few minutes to poke around , now all is well.

 

Stock 97 Legacy L

start by draining the radiator.

remove the radiator hoses top and bottom.

remove the two transmission cooling lines on the right side of the car.

remove the air intake system , and remove the bolt holding the rubber strap from the firewall to the engine.

remove the bolts holding the transmission shift cable (auto transmission)

 

loosen all the lug nuts on all four tires while on the ground

I then put the entire car up on four jackstands and then removed all four tires.

 

I then started with the front.

remove the steering linkage, being sure to mark the steering shaft top and bottom of its location on thee splined shafts

remove the front stuts,

place floor jack under crossmember then remove the bolts holding the crossmember, control arm and transmission crossmember and the driveshaft bearing

 

lower the front end drivetrain

 

install front lift blocks

install the strut extensions to the top of the struts and then re-install the struts

 

install the transmission crossmember

 

flip the driveshaft bearing over and re-install ( Note: I had to add a two inch spacer to each bolt and buy longer bolts to drop this bearing holder down an additional 2 inches after flipping it over)

Thats it for the front.........now for the back

 

place the floor jack under the rear differential and lift the whole rear end

 

remove struts

 

remove the crossmeber bolts, the control arm bracket bolts,

 

 

Install the rear lift

I had to remove my rear sway bar because after the lift , I will need to make brackets to drop it down also

 

I loosened up all the bolts and removed the brackets for the emergency brake lines and re-routed the emergency brake cables below the rear crossmemeber

 

I zip tied the brake lines to the struts

 

Here is a pic of where my tailpipe was hitting the axle

right now my muffler is held up with bailing wire. going to the muffler shop right after the alignment shop Monday

No rubbing anywhere, drives good. No road noise.
