Is this a good deal? 2008 subaru wrx, 40k miles for $17,500

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I wanted to know if this is a good deal for 2008 Subaru WRX. Here are the specs of the car and the price.

2008 Subaru WRX

Miles: 40k

2nd Owner

Manual

Everything serviced with receipts

No accidents/clean title

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Price: $17,500

I checked KBB with these specs for something fair is priced at $16,934.

I tried bringing it down but $17,500 is how much he owes on the car.

I don't think it makes sense to pay more then KBB book value, just because current owner is upside down on what he owes, vs what car is appraised at.

However, another thought is to check the NADA book for car value.

I have another private seller with the below.

2008 Subaru WRX Hatchback

White

Manual

Miles: 51k

2nd Owner

Everything serviced with receipts

No accidents/clean title

Modified the exhaust and intake but the person put it back to stock

Price: $16,995

Is this a better deal?

If you really want this car, I wouldn't let five hundred sway your decision. I would go with the first one over the second one "Modified, but restored to stock intake/exhaust." 40 K is a baby to me, obviously in the proper hands. To me both these these cars you listed are basically the same in terms of value and mileage. Good luck regardless.

my two...

Yeah, don't buy an 08. Ringland issues, ugly front end, narrow body... blech.

I know of an 07 with 55k for $10,500 up here, so $17k is really high for a non NW car (NW has "Subaru tax", they're more expensive here than somewhere like LA)

I can't find any 09 within a reasonable budget that is why I am going with an 08.

This is a huge financial purchase you are making. Don't let $500 sway a decision!

Especially if you can move up another year or two for under $2000. Its well worth it.

Be willing to travel to get it for a better price too. There are ways.

This.

I flew from Knoxville to Orlando to get mine and drove it home.

I have been checking out other states such as Washington, Oregon and Nevada but I am still unable to find one within my price range. I found one that is for $18,000 below are the conditions of the car.

2009 Subaru Impreza WRX

-5 speed manual

-5 door hatchback

-Satin White Pearl

- almost 62,000 miles (mostly highway)

-clean title

-$18,000 obo

-run strong with no mechanical problems

The FLAWS

The car was in an accident in 2009. Front end damage. Everything was

repaired by a Subaru certified autobody shop. The total expense was

covered by the insurance so everything was the right. There are couple

of scratches here and there (shown in pictures). There is a huge dent

on the rear passenger side right above the tail light

So far this is the best price that I have found an 09 WRX.

What's your upper limit for price? And you're settled on a new gen hatchback? Because I know of 2 or 3 blobeye (04-05) STIs for under 18k in my area. Clean titles.

I took the 08 WRX inspected at a mechanic shop and the only things they found out is Brake Inspection: Front 20% and Rear 30% and need to replace all 4 tires. Needs a new air filter. How much do you think this will cost to replace?

Normal wear and tear items. Not bad. Not sure if those percentages are used or available. Worst case scenario 1000 bucks.

Yup. Put you a set of hawk HPS pads on there while you're at it. Do some research before buying tires so they fit your environment and needs.

I agree totally. Obviously, you could take this a piece at a time- Tires now, brakes a little later. This would not scare me away at all from a rust free California car.
