92_rugby_subie Posted May 10, 2012 Share Posted May 10, 2012 Im a bit confused here... my first clock kept shorting out, so it got resoldered, but then didnt turn on... Then a completely different clock got put in, and only works when I push the buttons, the screen turns on but then shuts off when button not pushed... Problem? Solution? Noticed the wiring behind my glovebox has this: Theres 2 red wires, one with a green stripe on it... that doesnt seem to have a spot on the new clocks, or even on my other one... what does the red w/ green stripe do? Stubies Subie Posted May 11, 2012 Share Posted May 11, 2012 I soldered the resisters on both clocks, the second one is the old on out of my car, I thinking I got the iron to hot and cooked the resister. we can get another clock over the weekend and try it again the first clock I did, it worked perfect, then I worked on to more clocks, and neither one of them will work at all now. oops Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It takes a lot of heat to really destroy a resistor. The biggest thing with the clocks is to clean up the dirty, old solder that shrunk. I didn't just heat up the existing solder that was there, I added more to it to fill in any gaps that were created from the solder shrinking, and from some of the cold solder joints from the factory...
