Stubies Subie
For what it’s worth, I thought I’d share this: I was needing a new radiator cap for my EA82 because the old one was pretty well shot and allowing coolant to escape past the cap. I noticed on my car that it had a 13 lb cap on it, so I wanted to replace it with something better then what I had that was rated at 13 lbs I did some google searching and some ebay searches and found this Mr Gasket Thermocap with a built in thermometer, thinking that was pretty cool, I went looking for the cheapest place to buy one and found one on ebay for 9.99 plus shipping. Most everyone else wanted something like $20 plus shipping for it, so I thought 9.99 was a good deal. This is a 13 lb cap, and the Part number Mr. Gasket 2472, and it comes in silver, blue or red, I got the red one. I read some reviews through amazon.com and the reviews are mixed, but they also pertain to the bigger caps with higher presser ratings, with that being said, I don’t know how this will fair over time, but in the 70 miles that I’ve run it today, it did very well, it fits perfect, I think it has a better fit on the EA82 radiator then the old stock cap, and if you have reason to question your dash gauge, you can simply pop the hood and take a gander at the temperature reading on the top of the gauge, I checked it a few time today and it seems to be fairly accurate, the outside temperature was around 90 degrees today, the dash gauge was reading normal with the AC and both cooling fans running, and the gauge on the radiator read a steady 170 degrees. At this point, I think it’s a cheap alternative to installing an auxiliary temperature gauge on your dashboard somewhere. 10 to 15 bucks delivered, pop it on your radiator, and your good to go, it don’t get much simpler then that. Here’s a picture of it installed on my car: Edited May 15, 2012 by Stubies Subie
