Anyone put a wrx engine in a legacy auto?

So my whole engine just got ************ed badly and needs about 2500$ to repair well I'm saying ************ that it's a 98 legacy gt so I'm going to just put a wrx engine in it and a new tranny cause it's a automatic and I need to know what else needs to go into it to make it run smooth I know I have to do some wiring just not what. Can anyone help me out here

From what I have read, it is not an easy swap out. ECU, wiring, exhaust hook up, and instrument gauge hook up would make things difficult. It just would not be plug and play. Of course, anything is possible with tons of time and research. If so, plan on your car being out of service for several months, maybe more.

Reread GLoyale's post: if you don't know anything about it, you don't know enough to even start the swap.

 

First, the WRX wiring loom is double redundant and feeds every sensor in the car, even ones like "hey, your tail light is out!" You have to cut out every wire except those that make the engine run. You have to swap your intake, exhaust, add a turbo and all the plumbing for that. If this part makes you even slightly confused, take the advice and put a 2.2 in it. Safe, cheaper, easier, more reliable.

The problem is.... if you can't do it then we can't really help you do it. It's much to detailed of a process to walk someone through that isn't familair with automotive electrical. It takes me between 6 and 10 hours to strip a harness depending on year/model, etc.

 

You research, you learn.... but at the end of the day you will have to find some wiring diagrams and either sink or swim. Or pay someone else to do it. There are folks that will do it for a price.

 

$1300 for a WRX engine and tranny? Probaby junk for that price. Personally I wouldn't buy a used sports car engine at any price unless it had documentation or I had intimate knowledge of it's history. The EJ205 is not that great of an engine - they suffer from bottom end failure quite often. Pull the oil pan and inspect for metal - and check for varnish or sludge. Both are signs of poor maintenance or abuse.

^ what he said about the EJ205 while I had my motor out doing headgaskets, this guy across the street from me (impreza wrx owner) asked me to come take a look at this block that was in the basement since he did not know which model it came from.. sure enough it was a EJ205 but with like 2 pistons removed and just the rods in the block..

 

Having said that man are those pistons super small compared to the ej25d
