shortysayhi
1. Is the xt6 drive shaft the same as in loyals? (the U joints are broken) 2. How rare is the 5 speed tranny? 3. How rare is it to have the rear different lock as well?
john in KY
I think the back half is the same. Probably 1/2 of all XT6s had the 5-speed. Rarer than hen's teeth.
shortysayhi
okay, just a little background. I am looking at 88 Xt6 (5lug). The rear u Joint's are broken. so modified #1. If the loyal and xt6 drive lines are the same i can Swap them from my 86 gl wagon into the xt6?
T'subaru
I think I swapped the entire driveline from an ea82 to my xt6. ( rx) Id say the xt6 tranny is a bit rare, I hardly see them in the yards but as far as street use ive done some pretty long commutes the last couple of winters and never used the diff lock regardless of the amount of ice or snow. hankook i pike studded tires and im driving 150 miles each way on rails at freeway speeds:drunk: Ive never seen an lsd rear in any xt6 although they show in the fsm. Very rare. btw, my tranny is having bearing issues now and its half price weekend at pick and pull. I drove ( in my xt6 ) 2 hours each way today to pick up a 22r 5 speed trans, cost 44 bucks . I did a search and the closest xt to me is in calif, so id say rare for sure. still need a tranny though:( Edited May 28, 2012 by T'subaru
john in KY
I have both the XT6 driveshaft and a 5-speed transaxle but shipping from KY would be a bear.

As far as I know, the CV axles are the same.

T'subaru
I also bought u joints and somewhere on here are staked instructions here http://www.rockforddriveline.com/Staked_Instructions.htm

I do believe that I need the whole U joint. Problem is not sure what it is considered "stacked or non rebuild able" I am looking for the easiest fix (fastest) and then I can worry about the broken U joint. natext6
Ive never seen an lsd rear in any xt6 although they show in the fsm. How rare? Why are they so rare? I have a 5spd xt6 with rear lsd and diff lock. I didn't know they were a rarity tho! Is this set-up particularly desirable? Sorry for jumping in, my interest is just seriously peaked now. Well lsd everyone wants so it is "rare" but just set up wise its rare since a lot weren't produced or it was a option when buying the cars from dealership. And no worries I'm just getting into xt6's so I'm learning as well. I also looked around on the xt6 forum and found a lot of people swapping svx trannys (5 speed) to replace their automatics. natext6
I'm pretty sure you're thinking ej tranny swaps. For the most part they have the same doj spline count as ea82 turbos and er27 (25 if memory serves) so theyre the easiest to implement. they do need adaptor plates tho to be able to fit up to the engine. shortysayhi
Yeah. I can't find that article either now but that sounds right. So I guess back to the first q I posed, I will just pull my wagons drive shaft gl, measure and then compare it to the xt6's when I finish paying it and get it home. Thankfully it's 7 miles away and he took the add off. I will get pics up when I have the chance
