kabarakh
Are the differentials different depending on whether the car has hi/low or just pushbutton 4wd? I know that they will bolt up the same, but is there any difference?
kabarakh
To be slightly more specefic, will the rear differential from a pushbutton 4wd work in a dual range 4wd? Edited May 28, 2012 by kabarakh
AKghandi
It depends on the ratios. Clean off the cover and see if the sticker is still there If both cars are non turbo then it should work. Theres 2 ratios 3.90 (non turbo) and 3.70(turbo) there might be a different ratio on the autos but im not sure what that is. As far as how they mount they all mount the same. 987687
As long as neither are turbos, they should both be 3.90 ratios. I don't know anything about the automatics.
kabarakh
cool, they were both non-turbos so I should be good to go then. I figured I'd be fine, but the one I got came from a pushbutton, and the one I have has dual-range. Wanted to be sure I could still use both hi and low on it. I got some roll pins wickedly stuck in my axles, and rather then fight it under the car when it comes time to do my wheel bearings I'm just going to throw in my spare differential and some new spare axles I have so I can keep driving while I try to convince my current axles to come out of my differential... 987687
I have the roll pins out of my axles, but the problem is they get stuck onto the stubs in the diff. Mine WILL NOT come out. PERIOD. THE END. When I did my wheel bearings I took the trailing arms off and left the axles in the diff. Annoying.

Same deal with me, but it's stuck on both ends... so I can't get it out without removing the diff... Just the way it is, but hopefully when it's off the car I'll have better luck... Time will tell! Gloyale
Remove the boots, and cv's from in the cups. On the inside of the cup, you'll see a sheet metal cap in the bottom. Use a chisel ended punch, and chew up the disc , cut through until you can access the but end of the stub under there. Then use a drift punch, or take it to a press. If this is on the diff side, you can access the weird "E10" head bolt that holds the stub into the diff. Then take it out to the press.
