aba4430
Folks, Getting ready to line the Brat bed with herculiner. However, want to treat the various surface rust scratches etc., prior to application of the liner. What are the recommendations. Will use a light rust remover 3M wheel and then treat the rust with the appropriate chemical. Am considering the following two items. Any feedback is appreciated: http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-81773-Treatment-Filler-Compatible/dp/B000HBNX38/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GGMLQE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A23ADOZFIJNPFB Not sure whether local stores carry POR 15. I know NAPA carries the Permatex stuff: http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=BK_7651232_0361163858 The Herculiner kit seems to be preferred here over the others. Thx, aba4430
goblewagon
i would go with the permatex rust treatment way better stuff for the price because along with the por15 you also need marine clean and metal ready to prep the surface before you apply por15. kabarakh
Ospho is the best rust treatment I've ever used. We use it for industrial applications at my work, it's pricey but nothing else works as well in my experience.
bendecker
Side note on the Herculiner (which I put on the tailgate of my Brat and will someday finish up the rest of the bed with): I see a lot of posts on various boards about how rough it is. This is a non-issue. If it's too rough, get out some medium sand paper and it will quickly take off the sharp points and leave you with a barefoot-friendly liner. I'm very happy with mine and did no rust prep other than phosphoric acid and wet/dry sandpaper before putting it down (no visible rust left -- I was very thorough). No issues after 3 years. And it works excellent for prepping metal for ANY coating.
