Turbo Radiator Question?

Recommended Posts

Is a single row radiator standard in an 87 RX?

I was having problems with my RX Turbo almost overheating after a while on the road.......the temp would slowly creep up towards the red zone. I was looking through a junkyard and found a 1988 EA82 Turbo Wagon with a 2 row radiator that appears to be aftermarket.....but not sure. I snagged it and put it in my RX and its running nice and cool now.

Wandering through a junkyard is like tiptoeing through the daisies. Love it!!!

Yeah, in fact I've NEVER seen a "stock" double-row in any Sube, whether turbo or non. They may have all been aftermarket upgrades, or possibly offered as an option for extreme driving conditions.

Anyone know the story on the double rows?

I have looked through the junkyards and only found single row radiators on all the 2nd gen subarus (turbo or otherwise). The one I yanked from a junk yard had a few tags on it indicating it was an aftermarket product.

I stand corrected. I just learned something new. I didnt know the EA82 was considered 3rd generation. What is the current line of new subarus? 12th generation? :-)

A side question on the new subarus.......is the dual range tranny an option on the new Outbacks or Forrester models? Or did that feature go away?

I'll take your word for it Grav...

The one 87 A/T that I parted out had an aftermarket rad. It was a single row.

Was that fairly standard in the EA82T's? Double rows in all A/T's? I have not come accross a single one yet in the 85-89 run that was a 2-row.

Double row for an automatic and single for a stick. 1987 FSM info. Jay

Odd.. my 88 FSM doesn't mention that.. and neither my 87 nor 88 Twagon(both factory auto) had 2 rows.. Gonna have to break down and buy one this summer i think
