cut a hole for the crossmember bolt?

Recommended Posts

The passenger side transmission bolt for the crossmember snapped the wielded nut From what I heard people used a hole saw to get to the wielded nut to stop it from spinning in order to get the bolt out?

The crossmember is moving around and causes all sorts of movement

Please post back on how the job goes! I had to run a tap through one of those nuts last year and was afraid I was going to have to do what you are suggesting. Lucky for me the threads cleaned up and I was able to install a new bolt. But it would be good to know some details about the solution in case I'm not so lucky next time.

Yea, you're gonna have to pull up the carpet.

If I was in this situation. I'd measure the distance from the rocker to the bolt on the bottom of the car. Then do the same measurement on the inside. Then measure from, say the B pillar to the bolt on the bottom of the car. And do the same inside.

That way you're not gonna drill a hole and miss, and have an extra hole in your floor...

Measure lots of times, only cut one hole in your car :D

I am on the edge of my seat. Did you cut the hole yet???

Just to state the obvious, once I estimated where the hole should be, I would drill a very small hole and see how close I was to where I need to be. This way, if it's way off it will be easy to patch.

I haven't done anything yet and given it's pretty much going to rain this whole week I'm not sure..

I think one way I can find the hole easy is a have a 23 long inch drill bit and I figure I would stick it in the hole where the bolt goes after I cut it off and then I can find the location with ease and wield on a replacement bolt as well.

Yeah, I was just going to suggest that: Drill the pilot hole from the bottom using the old nut-hole as your guide.

Sucks having to work outside doesn't it?

Good luck!

Yeah it sucks lol I worked outside turning a thunderstorm got nice and soaked.
