Goobysoobs
So like 8 months ago my rear left caliper seized up so I replaced it and the pads and the rotor and the brake light has yet to go off, which doesn't bother me too much except now that I live in NC it has to pass some safety inspection of some sort and I just don't want that tripping it up. So I'm just wondering how to reset that light. Thanks in advance!
Caboobaroo
Check the float inside the master cylinder. If the level is low enough of the float is stuck, it will cause the brake light to stay on. Or a faulty parking brake switch but I don't think I've seen that on a Subaru.
crazyman03
+1 on the float. I had that issue too. That, and no fluid *doh*! -Justin

bstone
Just had a lady today with a Honda Civic who had a brake light on due to low fluid. Topped it off and no more light.
johnceggleston
but where is the fluid going? as the pads wear, the caliper piston travels farther causing the fliud level to go down. so if the fluid is low the pads may be worn out as well. or there is a leak? Some is lost to evaporation/boiling from the heat of the engine. It's also possible you have a small leak. If it continues to disappear quickly then you likely have a leak.
