I am looking for some guidance. The phase 2 EJ222 has completely different wiring harness plugs. The throttle body has far more electrical going on on the EJ222 than the EJ25. Can I swap throttle bodies. The intake looks much cleaner/simple on the EJ222. The position of the throttle body looks much the same so I'm thinking that my air intake plastic might fit the EJ222. Crank pulleys differ between the engines. I'm asumming that both the crank and cam trigger pulleys will need changed if using the EJ25 ECU.

I'm looking for any tips or ideas before I pull my tired leaking EJ25.

Is the EJ222 a rather unreliable engine?

Personly and I'm pretty sure many others will agree, but the ej22 is much more reliable that the ej25. Ej22 are a non interference, meaning if you break a timming belt the heads arnt toast like the ej25. Little loss in power though.

I did this swap a few months ago, from ej25 to ej22. Loss of power? Can't tell. It accelerates just as well as the ej25 and I don't feel any lack of ooomph.

OP, sorry I can't help. With till GeneralDisorder comes along.

it depends on the year.

the phase 2 ej22 will swap into a ej25 car but only for its year group, 00 - 04. you may have to swap the cam and crank sprockets, depending on year. the intakes will swap between the phase 2 ej22 and the phase 2 ej25, but the ej22 phase 2 intake will not swap onto the phase 1 ej22. i have never heard of anyone swapping an ej22 into a later ej25 car, i don't know if it will work.

the phase 1 ej22 will swap into the 95 - 99 phase 1 ej25 cars, no problem. not real problems, a few things to look out for.
