EA82 bent CAM??

Recommended Posts

Im struggling getting my timing correct and I noticed that I can rotate my rotor by hand about 45 degrees backwards. when i do this the sprocket on the other side of the left cam(connected to the disty) moves in and out(towards my bumper/towards my tailgate).

My big questions

Could my cam be messed up?? bent of otherwise?

is it supposed to be able to move in and out?

pulled Out the distributor and it seemed fine.

Could it be broken inside?

Ahhhhhh

After more tinkering and attempting to time the CAMS and the distributor in one trip, i've came to a new dilemma.

Dropped in my distributor all the way and my rotor can spin freely.

Could there be an issue with the instillation of my CAM? The distributor teeth appear fine. Possibly the teeth on the end of the CAM or the distributor teeth?

I don't know whats going on. My father in law is a mechanic and has been working on this with me. We're sure we're timing everything correctly and trying to figure out what is creating our problem.

Anyone came across something similar to this or know what could be wrong with my CAM? (all drivers side btw.)

Are you sure the distributor is fully seated? If so.... either the roll pin for the distributor shaft gear is missing/sheared away.... or you have major mechanical wear and/or damage. At which point you are going to have to pull the valve cover to get a visual on what's going on in there.
