1988 Loyale - New fuel pump but still no start

I have a 1988 DL with SPFI. I rebuilt EA82 engine two years ago and has good performance. Now, car sputters and stalls as if no fuel. Replaced original fuel pump and filter and it worked fine for a few days then it all happened again. Doesn't start now. Pump appears to work when bypassed. Perhaps some sensor/electrical component is preventing the fuel pump to work improperly?

theres a fuse in the fusebox I believe that protects the pump, check it and see if its blown. also there should be a relay that cuts off the fuel pump in case of an accident, you can check that as well.

Check your fuel filters again. If you had the same gas in the car that caused this last time, maybe there's something in your tank clogging your filters.

Lets clear up a few things:

 

1. You say it "appears" to work when bypassed. I assume you mean the power supply is being bypassed... what do you mean by "appears"? Does it run perfectly when you apply an outside voltage and ground?

 

2. Have you done a fuel pressure test? Replaced the filter?

When fuel pumps start to go out they can still work intermittently. So, seeing it work doesn't mean it isn't the problem.

 

Sounds like a fuel pump problem to me.

Verify power is getting through fuse 11 in the dash, it supplies power to the pump. If that is ok then check the relay to see if it is operating and working ok.
