Since I bought my car I have noticed that the key doesnt seem to engage smoothly, as in I usually have to wiggle it to unlock the doors and trunk and occasionally to start the car. It is the original key and I have only that key, no others. I assume wear on the key its self is causing this not worn or dirty locks. Can I get a new key ordered/made by taking it to a dealer so they can pull vin code or something, or is calling a locksmith a better idea?

Dealers can usually cut a new key based on the VIN. You'll probably have to show them License and Registration to prove it's your car, but they usually cut them while you wait. Not like some other makers that have to order keys and you wait a day or more to get it.

Dealers cut keys are usually pretty cheap too.

my step dad got a car that had this problem. we took out the passenger door lock and took it to the locksmith and had a key made for it. fixed it good as new and it only cost $20 since we pulled the lock ourselves.

Do you know what a reasonable price is for this from a dealer? are we talking $15 or so?

Probably $15 or under for just a blade key. My local dealer is $3 for a key cut, plus $3 for the key. But I think it's more for a VIN code cut.

BUT... they're called stealerships for a reason... :Flame:

Call and ask if they can do it and what it costs.
