zooandsubis
As i'm new to the forum, wasn't sure which section this should go under? My question is: I have an 07 wrx hatch (bought very recently, i've had about 12 subis before this and am just ecstatic and my GF has an 05 forester XT (which she is the proud new owner of, picked it out herself.. god i love her). We are both wanting to buy intake kits, in the past I have fab'd my own, but both of us kind of want something nice as well as nice looking so we're going for kits. I was thinking SPT.. There are no listing for the forester for an SPT intake kit, I haven't studied the two in detail but they seem damn close to the same thing... Will an intake kit for my rex not fit her forester? Durania
The aem one on rsd looks to cross reference. http://www.rallysportdirect.com/AEM-Short-Ram-Intake-Red-Subaru-WRX-STI-FXT-2002-2007
bratman18
Short ram intakes should fit both, cold air won't. And if they have any heat shield for the intake, those will be different as well.
zooandsubis
Sweet! So while we're at it... We both want to slowly but surely upgrade (obviously). This is my first EJ turbo vehicle, had a few EA turbos... What's the best bang for your buck upgrades? Intake, exhaust still in the 2 or 3? What would you all reccomend? Caboobaroo
Intake, exhaust and Cobb Accessport would be my top 3 on those cars.
wtdash
-Best 'bang for buck' is Cobb AP- about $400 each used (can't share between your cars, btw - it's 'married' to the car once a tune is applied). Cobb has OTS (off the shelf) maps that are free to download and install, but a Pro/Custom tune (~$300-500) will get you even more - this is all on the stock car. EDIT: Ensure you get the one for YOUR YEAR/MODEL. -Next, I'd get a Downpipe, which the Cobb can tune for. ($150 ebait>>$600 Cobb) -They both come stock w/the TD04, which is small. Both can benefit from a relatively easy upgrade to an STI VF39/43/48 turbo, and the AP can tune for those as well. ($350-500 - Used) -Intercooler- if you get a bigger turbo, you'll want more cool air. One issue is getting the correct scoop/splitter/diffuser to ensure the incoming air is getting to ALL of the bigger IC. ($200++) -Intake and Exhaust once you decide to get a bigger turbo, as the existing ones are good to @ least 250 WHEEL HP. (too many options to price) Yes, I know people like to get an exhaust and intake, but they're not the best bang for your buck....unless your 'ear-dyno' is more important than the 'butt-dyno'. And no offense to the USMB, but it's time to go Searching on subaruforester.org for the XT, and NASIOC for the WRX, if you haven't already. Just watch out on NASIOC...Search well b4 asking or you'll be wishing you had. I HIGHLY recommend reading Unabomber's Manifesto - it covers a TON of stuff related to your upgrades. zooandsubis
So found a cheap AccessPort locally. What do you guys think of this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/WRX-STI-SS-HEADER-3-TURBO-CATBACK-DOWN-PIPE-UP-PIPE-CAT-/180640301374?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2007%7CSubmodel%3AWRX&hash=item2a0f00413e&vxp=mtr Is there really a difference between the COBB downpipe or the off brand downpipe (like the one included in this kit) because there is a SERIOUS price difference. This kit seems like a seriously good deal, header,down-pipe, up-pipe and catback for 400? I dont really care for the muffler but still!! Any other suggestions? Is the header and up-pipe going to make much of a difference? Or should I just get a nice down-pipe and pick a catback that i like? Thanks for the help guys! bratman18
Well you do get what you pay for. But, most of the ebay exhausts will hold up pretty good. As for the down pipe, if you want a catted one, don't cheap out. You can get a used one cheaper that will do just fine, along with the rest of the exhaust as well. Make sure the Accessport you get is the right model for whichever car you are using it for. Also, while WRX/STi exhausts will fit on the Forester XT, the tip will not stick out as far on the rear bumper, so at times it causes the rear bumper to melt a little, and you will most likely have to use longer exhaust hangers to have it hang down at the right height. bratman18
I will also add to NOT use the ebay header! They are cheaply made with thin metal, and the flex section for the one piece header/up pipes are junk! They will break apart and suck up into your turbo.........ask me how I know.
