mountain brat
So put an xt6 trans in after 5k lost 2-4-r any ideas oil looks good and not the linkage. Thanks for any input
idosubaru
sounds like the trans is blown. does 2-4 mean: "2 and 4" or "2 through 4"? so first gear works perfectly fine? clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing - new, used, etc? no signs before failure in the 5,000 miles you had it installed? noises, grinding, crunching...? Turbone
Well, how many miles did it have on it? You can always pull it and split it open to see what happened, but rebuilding one isnt cheap. When you put a used trans in, its a roll of the dice. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you dont.
Caboobaroo
I think it's going to be a linkage issue. Internally, 2,4 and R don't use the same shifter rods once you get down inside the case. Since I just finished doing shifter bushings on my XT6, I'm now very familiar with the stock linkage of the car. So check the shift linkages to make sure they're tight and check the shifter bushings to make sure they haven't split and come out, leaving the barrels empty. mountain brat
Its internal.it won't shift into 2,4,or reverse. Started with no reverse then 2 and 4 followed.
Caboobaroo
Then you will need to check the shift lever that the linkage is held onto with the double roll pin. Almost sounds like it could be the shifter rod in the tail shaft housing has broken the ear off that pulls back on 2, 4 and R shift levers.
