Subaru_dude
Got it for $100 and it looks great. Upon further inspection it's been carefully spray-painted. Pulled the plugs, both driver side cylinders have standing water in them. Tilted it nearly upside down and got most of the dark brown water out. Tried to turn the motor all the way over and it'll go about 3/4 of the way around. You can hear the rings scraping rust until they just stop. You guys think there's any hope for this engine? Maybe a rebuild? I'm not sure if the standing water is because of a headgasket or the engine just being left out in the rain leaning on the driver side head without a carb, funneling water into those 2 cylinders. I'd really like to salvage it, otherwise it's almost a complete waste of money. I've never dug into an EA81... I guess this might be a good candidate for hands on practice. Idasho
Not going to hurt any to tear it apart. Only your time. Id pull the heads and inspect the cylinders to see just how bad it is.
