Crank Pully Problems

Recommended Posts

ok well yesterday i finished up redoing the oil pump, and put the new belts and stuff on my car. i got everything back together and crank her over, she starts right up without a single tick, well anything really noticeable.

then everything stops, the pulls stop turning, so i turn off the car. i can move them by hand, ends up the dam bolt that hold the crank pully on wont stay tight, i tightened it 3 times, reefin on it, no use.

so now what should i do, i was thinking of gettin some thread locker and put it on there and see what it does.

please help me, i got my lisence back in 3 days and i have insurance, and i need to get to my job with this car.

Thanks,

Shean

A 1/2" air impact is the best tool (need to have the rad out). Or you can use a 1/2" breaker bar, trick with the breaker bar is you need to lock up the motor, if its a stick put it in a high gear and lock the e-brake, if its an auto things get complicated. I'm not sure what the torque spec is but it needs to be tight. Good luck

time out

before you go impacting stuff

i would bet your problem is you lost the little tiny almost a hair bigger than 1/8 inch pin that fits in a hole in the crank pulley and also fits in a small hole on the outer timing belt sprocket

with out that pin it will allow the crank pulley to slip and then stuff loosens up yadda yadda

i lost mine but noticed it before i put back on got a pice of steel rod close to the right size and cut it off and it seems to work fine

oh and to tighten the nut i used a torque wrench and stuck a big screw driver in the inspection hole to wedged the fly wheel teeth i have done it often and have had no tooth damage yet

i highly doubt i lost anything because there is nothing in my work space, i didn't loose a single nut or bolt, NOW THATS AMAZING!!!, and everything went back together as it should, but ill check and see.

thanks for pointing out that problem it might be.
