Stubies Subie Posted October 16, 2012 Share Posted October 16, 2012 I finally got my truck after waiting for it for a couple of months, here' a few pics, just got it home yesterday, 70,000 original documented miles, no rust, runs and drives great, for $1,300 It’s been sitting a few years, previous owner passed away and it sat until I bought it. And I haven’t even washed it yet, it’s really dirty. It’s missing some chrome trim, but over all the body is really straight except for a couple of small dents. Here’s the backend of it. The interior is pretty much flawless: I’m sure I’ll have some bugs to work out of it because it sat for a few years, but as it is right now, it seems pretty nice to me. I took it out in my back yard yesterday and try out the 4 wheel drive, and it worked great, but once I put it into 4 low, it was a bear to get back out, the shifter got stuck. Don’t know what causes that, maybe just lack of use? I was told the truck never was 4 wheeled, and everything is tight so it seems like that might be true. Haha. 4WD I know my dad Chev in order to pull it out of 4 back into 2, you need to back up 100 feet? I can't remember the actual number but I remember it had something to do with back up to disengage. I would love to have an old one like that. most of them are rusted out around here to when you get that old, and the dash boards are cracked and split, this one is perfect, not sure how it survived unless it spent some time in a garage or something. I was looking up that issue about getting stuck in low range and not being able to shift out of it and apparently it's a common problem with just about all the 4x4's, they say to stick it in reverse and back up while pulling the shifter out of low range, that worked like a charm on this one. I remember having that problem with a Jeep grand Cherokee I used to own but it waswn't quite as bad as this one to get out of low range. I also saw a mod for a twin stick on the 205 transfer case, I might do that, then that will give me independent Hi range low range and 2 wheel and 4 wheel and 2wd front or rear. here's a how to on the twin stick conversion: http://ivanribic.clubfte.com/page2.html I hope I can get a change to do some cleaning on it this weekend, it's going to be a bit before I actually get to use the truck or drive it, so now would be a good time to tinker around with it and work some of the bugs out as i find them. Powerwash the shift linkage where the rails meet the shifter, and then relube it, and itll shift like butter that's something I was going to try to get done this weekend, it's a greasy mess under the hood, Saturday I might take the presser washer to it I'm looking forward to being able to use this truck, I know I'll never be able to afford to use it as a daily driver, the gas millage is going to be terrible, but for going to the dump, taking the boat to the river or getting fire wood, it's going to be fun ) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would love to have an old one like that. my cousin lives oregon on the coast and is using three different chevy trucks to restore his 1963 chevy step side which most of those have major rust problems when they get that old and especialy at the coast even in oregon where the subaru's are plentiful Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
