lmdew Posted December 30, 2012 Share Posted December 30, 2012 A friend picked up a 01 Legacy at a pretty good price. It's leaking oil on the HG so he's going to replace them. He asked if there was a better Improved HG. I said I'd stay with Subaru HG's. Anyone know any different? Any other hints for a quality HG job on a 01 2.5? ivans imports Posted December 30, 2012 Share Posted December 30, 2012 I use stock gaskets but do not trust the coatings on them i coat every one with avionic form a gasket every time to insulate the gasket from the heat and oil and coolant thiss seems to holdup have cars with 300000kms on them after headjob and no leaks small step but makes a difference over a 100 headgasket jobs thiss year and no combacks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I listed the part number a few posts up. The sti gasket is 0.5mm thick vs 0.75mm. So you get a very slight compression bump and gain probably 1-2hp.
