Thoughts on fuel pump issues.

Recommended Posts

Got to looking at the fuel pump on my 86' Brat, no wonder I'm smelling gas in the garage when go to leave for work.

The piece that is screwed into the receiving end of the pump seems to be leaking fuel.

I can hear the pump run when I'm at a low enough idle or moving slow enough,

I'm just wondering if I should replace the pump?

Just noticed the other day that I can here the fuel pump surging with my turn signal on  anybody think this could be an issue down the the road?

Mine does that too. Seems to be normal for these old cars.

I would just remove the fitting, throw some teflon tape on the threads and tighten it back up, should be good.

If the pump is not faulty, don't replace. Just a leaky fitting.

Im just throwin this out there. Teflon is for air. It might get you by for awhile on fuel lines tho it wouldnt be a permanent fix.

Hey man,

I have been using it for years. Never had an issue. I have used it for coolant sensor threads as well, it isn't just for air. If you can't throw an O-ring on there, Teflon tape is the only option you have. Is there other options you know of?

I actually tried some 257 threadlock, I haven't checked it yet.

The guy at Oriellys pointed it out says it is resistant to gas, went to put away and found another tube just like it, only not new:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

..google this problem and you will find thousands who have asked the same question..usually tired or slow responding voltage regulators..don't expect a rebuilt alt. to help here because most rebuilds never exchange the reg. unless they have to with a poorer quality one from asia..
