Meeky Moose
while i was at the junkyard, that i've been to, to many times to count. i was walkin around with a friend lookin for a maxima.. well i saw this little black justy.. so figured i'd go look.. after i peeked in it and saw it was a bare shell, i turned around and saw a midnight blue (so dark it almost looked black) ea82 sedan.. now i figured it was the same as all the other 6 or so sedans.. just a gl, or loyale, etc.. but i went over and looked anyways, since i hadn't seen it before and it wasn't with the other sedans.. first thing i notice was the back door.. "4WD TURBO RX" now when i saw this i got excited.. finally something to poke around at for parts, lol.. when i get up closer i see the passenger side mirror.. "its an 85' RX sedan" i could tell by the specific mirrors that were only on that year, model, body style soob. now i about wet myself.. then i peek in the window, and about passed out.. this is what i found... not 1 tear anywhere.. they are as good as when they came off the assembly line.. they are also not broke down either, nice and plush. the rear folds down as it should, its also got a center arm rest that folds down.. the rear folding part is a 3 piece fold down design.. the only thing that was missing was the headrests! (ARG!) so now i gotta track those down.. pictures say a thousand words.. i also snagged all the seatbelts out of the car along with a bunch of odds and ends.. i'm going back for the mirrors (for spares) this next weekend.. i'm debating on jerking the trans, rear LSD, and suspension out of the car for my wagon... its all there.. the car had 202k and was complete (minus my headrests, and wheels) it was a tad o n teh rusty side, and one door was caved in as well.. so i got outa the junkyard with the above seats, all the seatbelts, the resr center plastic (on the back of the trunk) a dome light cover, a bunch of plastic plugs, scrfews, etc. all for the very sweet price of $65.. now i need to find some headrests.. my wheels from germany will be here in a few weeks, and i have a body kit lined up.. Carlisle here i come! lol
calebz
That is sooo pimp.. I would give up my GL-10 interior for those..
subiemech85
thank you for finding it! 1. could you check on sending my way the clock, rear lsd if 3.9 capable, radio, trip computer, dingus tool for removing something -- part of factory tool kit, plug wires if origional, vac guage from floor, tools from seats/floor, looks like there are several screwdrivers, wrench, and finally how about more pics? Dr. RX
The D/R shifter is different too, I've never seen one like that on an EA82. Yea, you've got to get the tranny and LSD. Man take a day off from work, call in sick, or something, that stuff may not be there next weekend. I know if it was around here it sure wouldn't be, but the the PAP around here are open 7 days a week.
mcbrat
nice. just like the 85 RX sedan I got my seats out of. I snagged the LSD out of mine, and the rubber intake tube. I went back to get some more stuff and they crushed it with the tranny....
carfreak85
Subimech85, if you look at the background, that car is NOT in a yard. Id bet those are his tools!
Turbone
This is a kind of off the wall question, but could you go back to the Justy and see if it has the black centercaps? Btw, nice score
Meeky Moose
Sorry Subiemech.. afraid that is my car, lol.. those pics are from after the install.. didn't have the camera at the yard.. this yard is open 8-4:30 m-f and 9-3 on sat. so since i work those same hours m-f i can only get down there on saturdays.. there are acctually 2 justys there, an 82, and the other was a late 80's.. I plan on goin back out next weekend, so i'll take a look for black centers.. i seem to recall the 82' havin at least one of them, maybe 2.. heres a rundown of whats in the yard 3 ea82 sedans, 1turbo, 2 spfi, all automatic 2wd.. 4 or 5 wagons, all either carb or spfi and 2wd.. 1 RX sedan, not much left on it 2 justy's, one has mint interior, other is picked at.. one sedan has 4 h-alloys and tires that are almost new on it.. alloys are very nice.. think they go fer $15 each tho.. the turbo sedan has a complete ea82T in it.. amazed the turbo is still there.. the wagons all have engines in various states of parts.. a couple have real nice interiors... the 82' justy has mint interior, not a rip anywhere.. the other is black and missing a few things.. if anyone wants me to look for anything, let me know.. i'm not pullin any lsd's, tranny's, or engines at this point.. this is the kind of yard that never crushes anything.. maybe once every 5 years... and they already cleared half the lot.. so the soobies are stayin put for awhile.. ohh i saw a nice ea82 chrome roof rack.. its alot different than the black ones.. i'll have to snap a pic.. PHATBRAT
WOW! Excellent score! I was gonna say, looks way to nice to be in a junkyard. Guess I was right. I just couldn't see the CD player in a car that was junked. How bout some pics of the whole car? Boz
CIS Subaru
What's special about the '85-'86 RX tranny? Is it just that it's a D/R turbo tranny?
ShawnW
Is it that its still got the diff lock but its not FT 4wd?
83projectbrat
ive got that same d/r shifter in my 85 wagon, whats so special about it? the 85 wagon was a really early model one. it has goofy full style windows and the mirrors are like stuck out and not attached like the ones youll see on later gl models? im thinking the shifter is just a early 85 one. correct me if wrong
Caboobaroo
Hondasucks has that same tranny in his turbowagon. It has the same shifter and everything too. It needs a rebuild REALLY badly (it grinds in first, second, and third sometimes) But yeah I've driven a turbowagon with that shifter in it:D Ok what is so special about them. It is NOT a full time 4wd dual range turbo tranny. It is part time 4wd, 5-speed turbo tranny. So it fits the turbo axles without mods. Also, the low range is not as low as a regular EA82 d/r 5-speed. The low range is higher so its more of a "sport" 4wd tranny. Thats all I can think that is different about them. Also Shawn, there is no diff lock on it. Its just like a regular d/r tranny but its turbo with a higher low range than the na trannies.
JWX
what yard is this? I might have to stop by there the next time I'm up that away
heartless
Really nice find there, guy! very nice seats, and matching seatbelts, too! way cool! Can I ask ya a favor when you go back out there? grab a couple of coil brackets with the built in ignition amp?? Dont necessarily need the coil itself, just the bracket part. Would gladly reimburse you for the parts and shipping to me. We (madkow007 and I) have a lack of junkyards with old Subies, and desperately need at least one of these little darlings that works! The one in my car died about a month ago, have the only spare we had in there now. His car needs one now as well. Congrats on the great find!! TROGDOR!
That shifter was in all 85 D/R EA82's. I wonder what Dennis did with the seats that were in the RX? The headrests were good... Or, you could just take some dark gray Loyale headrests and dye them black.
Meeky Moose
junkyad, is called Tate's.. Heartless: skip and i had a conversation bout them thar brackets already.. am going out this coming weekend anyways to get the mirrors and stuff, i'll dig through the soobies and find ya a bracket.. the amplifier is that little round thingy with a wire comin outa both ends? correct? if not can ya shoot me a pic of what it looks like, so i know i get ya the right part.. hmm maybe i need to talk ta Dennis, hehe.. Dennis ya out there? got any headrests? in the meantime i took some headrests off a regular RX seat.. you can tell its grey but its close enough for now till i find the real thing... Dr. RX
Meeky, if you have time on your next run, could you get the reflector between the tails lights for my, the one that I have for a RX sedan has a broken corner.
mcbrat
actually, now the more I think about it, my old 85 D/R wagon had the same type of D/R shifter (but brown) I prefer the 86 style with the knob...
Flowmastered87GL
The D/R shifter is different too, I've never seen one like that on an EA82. Yea, you've got to get the tranny and LSD. I know if it was around here it sure wouldn't be, but the the PAP around here are open 7 days a week. THe DR shifter is standard issue 1985. I looked at an 85 GL and it had it too. Meeky Moose
Corky: that was one of the other pieces i snagged.. it was so shiny it was like new.. mine looks like it was rubbed with sandpaper. . :-\ its got a couple cracks in it though, and one of the studs broke off upon removal :-\
TROGDOR!
Corky- there's an 87 RX sedan at my local yard with that panel on it. I could grab it. Everyone else- don't bother asking for parts off it, everything else on it that's special to an RX is already gone, thanks to me and Skip.
Dr. RX
That's ok, I can fix the one I have since I have both pieces. I'm also going to have to remove some small scatches and some over spray off the one that I have.
Qman
Corky, do you want Turbo 4WD or Turbo 4WD rx? I have both. Neither are brand new but both are in decent/good shape.
