subeman90
I need to see some pics of the back of a 2.2 engine and some pics of the back of the crank with the flywheel off. If anyone can give me some measurements of the holes that would be cool too. This is for my vanagon project....today (sat.) the 3.8 that is in my sig. got removed for a much better engine to go there. thanks in advance, Matt
Nug
It sounds like you are trying to make your own adapter. The one for the Beetle is fairly complex, especially the flywheel. You are right though, it's a great engine. And it makes this thing scream.
subeman90
I have the adaptor from the 3.8 and it was made with a bunch of holes in it to fit various engines....was just looking for a little cheaper route to go(reuse maybe if it fits)....heck I would never make one...I don't have the tools for that. BTW, snot is your kit a kennedy kit or is it a different manuf.? My kit is from a company called Vango. It fits any GMengine 2.04cyl to 3.8 6-cyl and ford 4cly engines. sisu
Try these: http://volksweb.relitech.com/convert.htm http://volksweb.relitech.com/subacrew.htm http://www.cycoactive.com/Urabus/[/url] http://volksweb.relitech.com/subaru.htm Actually there are a ton of site out there. some of the sites are poor but they may lead to better ones. Just thought I'd help or hinder. I used www.dogpile.com for the search engine and just put in Subaru engine in Vanagon to get the hits.
Nug
Kennedy. The flywheel used is a highly modified Vw piece. The center has been cut out, and a very thick piece has been tig welded in. As far as the adapter plate is concerned, I think it would be rather difficlult to have a flat piece line up correctly. I mean, it's doable, but you would have some difficulty getting the input shaft of the transmission exactly in line with the crankshaft. The VW engine and transmission are flanged together, basically, and the Kennedy adapter replicates that. Sooooo, you have a 3.8 adapter plate, huh? Does it work well? I seem to have this unlimited supply of 3.8's sitting right in front of me, and a spare VW sitting in the backyard. Hmmmm...
subeman90
Like the saying goes....money talks.... It is going to ebay sooner or later but if you want it. Heck if you want the 3.8 i'll make you a banging deal on that too. talk to me... Matt
kevinsUBARU
I used to have contact info from a guy in Canada who made adaptors...pretty damn reasonable too. I met him at the VW show in Woodstock a few years ago....I should be able to hit it up again this summer, so I'll look again I know I posted it on the ezboard board, but that has probably since been long deleted! hklaine
I have found some info online regarding this swap into vanagons, but anyone have any leads on the beetle kit? Vendor sites? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -Heikki
