Jake@PowellSubaru
Are universal O2 sensors ok to use? I'm not worried about the extra wiring work involved when using a Bosch universal O2 sensor, I just wanna know that it's not gonna cause problems with the pcm or fuel trim system. mikaleda
In my experience they were a little long and hard to install without damaging them, I ended up going o.e.m. I never got the universal to work correctly Edited February 9, 2013 by mikaleda
Rooster2
If by universal, you mean one where you splice wires from old one to new one, then I have to say that in my experience I have never had one last very long. Going after market is good, if no wires need to be spliced.
1-3-2-4
I only use Denso 02 sensors, my front one is Denso and I need to buy the rear sensor as I bent the part were the wires come out so I have a code, might as well get Denso for that too. Fairtax4me
The old one wire sensors were fine, but the multi-wire universals have a poor reputation for reliability. Have one that has just failed in my mothers Camry after only about 2 years. Worked great until about a month ago then fuel economy went to hell and it popped a CEL codes p1130 and p0171. Scanner showed STFT at +24%, LTFT at +44.5%. (Pig rich) You can get Denso or NTK exact fit on rockauto.com for about $50.
