So my 97 impreza OBS has started leaking oil from the passenger side cam seal. I am gonna go ahead and do the timing belt, water pump, and idler pulleys while i am in there, but my question is about the cam seals. i wanna go ahead and do both sides, but is it as simple as removing the cam gears, removing the old seals and popping in the new seals??? Am i missing something? Dont wanna expect to do this and something else pop up. Any help and info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On the cam sensor side, the retainer comes off and there is an o-ring behind it.

There is an o-ring on the back of the passenger side head behind circular plate.

You  might as well do the front seal since it is contained in the oil pump and you can do this on a bench.

Loosen al your bolts with the belt still on so it can hold them still.

You will want to remove the crank pulley and the cover behind it so you can line up your belt.

no need to remove the cam to change the seal.  take off the timing covers and cam pulleys pop the seal out with a flathead screwdriver.  make sure you are prying out from the camshaft you dont wanna put a burr on the camshaft.    spray out the housing with brake clean and clean up the oil off the seal housing

Make sure you set the crank timing mark to 12 oclock (that will set the cams at 12 oclock as well)
